BOS Weekly Update - June 23, 2016

Posted on June 23, 2016 at 7:50 AM by Melanie Oldeman

The Winthrop Field Committee presented their annual update to the Selectmen this week. This beautiful open is in excellent shape under the watchful eye of the committee. The stone wall was recently rebuilt and tree trimming was completed.  The Selectmen received a healthy donation of funds from committee members, as well as other supporters of the field, making the maintenance of the field self-supporting.

There are a number of board and committee vacancies.  Volunteers are needed to serve on the Town’s ADA Committee, the Animal Control Board, the Zoning Board of Adjustment, the Council on Aging, the Cultural Council, the Downtown Improvement Committee, the MBTA Advisory Board, the Energy Efficiency Board, and the Parks and Recreation Committee.  Interested individuals should complete a volunteer application form and return it to the Selectmen’s Office.

There will be an additional week of trash pick up the week of July 4th.  Normally this would be an off week for picking up garbage but given the holiday weekend and all the festivities planned, the Town has asked Hiltz to do an extra week of pickup. Because of the Monday holiday, trash, recycling and compost will be collected on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 5 and 6.

Coming Soon at Town Hall

Members of the Board of Selectmen will be meeting with the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Adjustment on Monday, June 27 at 7PM to discuss possible zoning amendments that would make the expansion of non-conforming buildings easier.

The Finance Committee will be discussing priorities for next year’s budget development process on Wednesday, June 29 at 7PM.  Agenda topics include whether the Town should pursue a combined public safety operation headed by one person rather than hiring two new chiefs.
