BOS WEEKLY UPDATE – September 14, 2017
Complete Street Projects: The study committee has finished their work and the Selectmen will be reviewing which of the recommended projects they will advance with a funding request to the state. This will take place at our September 25 meeting. In addition, the layout for the road stripping on Pine, Bridge and School Streets will be reviewed.
Lincoln Street Pedestrian Bridge: The School District is moving forward with repairing the damaged pedestrian overpass. The slow process of dealing with the trucking company’s insurance company and getting the engineering done is finally advancing.
Memorial School Building Committee updates/tours: Two time slots – 9AM or 7PM on October 4 at the Memorial School Auditorium. Visit www.mersd.org and click on the Memorial Building Project for more information.
Draft Hazard Mitigation Plan: Public comments are welcome on the new hazard mitigation plan that is now in draft form. The draft includes projections about possible greater flooding threats induced by climate change, impacting lower lying coastal properties and those lands abutting streams. The draft plan can be found on the Town’s web site.
Master Plan Work: The development of our new master plan is entering a critical phase as we work to develop specific action steps that will advance the Shared Community Vision developed earlier. Numerous opportunities for your input will be available in the coming weeks – drop in Master plan Office hours on September 13th and 20th from 5-7PM; conversation tables at the upcoming school open houses September 14 and 28; and an online community wide survey soliciting your opinion on various priority ideas. What are the lasting legacies we should be leaving future generations?
Construction work continues around town: The numerous simultaneous projects have been a bit frustrating to navigate but the end is in sight! Much of the work is winding down. (Projects overlapped too much when delays were encountered.) Still to do is the re-striping of Pine, School and Bridge Streets. Dredging of Areas B and C of the harbor will begin the first of October. Additional private dredging in the inner harbor will also take place.
Regular Schedule for Trash, Recycling and Compost. Look for upcoming information on new used clothing curb-side pick-up service.
